What are these Proofpoint emails I keep getting?

Modified on Thu, 25 Feb, 2021 at 1:12 PM

Proofpoint is our spam and malware filtration system.  Its job is to scan all incoming email for unwanted ads, scams, viruses, and malware.  If it finds anything suspicious, it blocks the email from going to your inbox.  Sometimes, however, it gets a little overzealous with blocking things, so it sends out periodic emails of items it is unsure of to get your approval before sending it to you.

Here's what a Proofpoint email looks like:

These are emails that the system thinks are spam, but wants human input to be sure.  You'll notice 4 options on the right that you can do with each email

Preview allows you to see the contents of the email without it being delivered to your inbox so that you can better decide whether you actually want it.

Release sends the email to your inbox.

Release and Approve sends the email to your inbox and adds that email address to your safe senders list so that emails they send no longer get filtered out.  Use this only if you always want email from this sender.

Block tells Proofpoint that it is an unwanted email and Proofpoint gets rid of it for you.
